Tuatara Super Car

The American car brand SSC set a new speed record with the company’s new car, called Tuatara. This beast was able to reach a speed of 331 mph (more than 532.5 km / h) earlier this year, thus overtaking the Bugatti Chiron, which was titled as the fastest car in the world back in 2019. The average speed of the Tuatara reached 316.11 mph in two tests, compared to 304.77 for the Bugatti. The Tuatara accelerated to 301.7 and 331.15 mph in two tests on Sunday morning, October 10, near Paramp, Nevada.

To break the real and valid speed record held by the Shelby brand supercars, one of the 100 cars tested has been produced and in this test, the tires and ordinary fuel have been used. The driver was a Mancunian F1 champion named Oliver Weller. The speed in the Tuatara was monitored by 15 GPS satellites. According to the speed record criteria, the Tuatara moved in two opposite directions, and after an hour of driving, its speed was measured to set the record for “fastest production car”, a record that has been confirmed by the authorities.

This is not the first time that SSC has tried to break the Bugatti car record. “It’s been ten years since we had this record with our first car, the Ultimate Aero, and the Tuatara is a mile ahead,” said Jared Shelby, the company’s CEO, about the record-breaking car he built. “The performance shows the commitment and focus with which we sought to achieve this.” The owner of the Tuatara used in the speed test is Dr. Larry Chaplin, an entrepreneur and lover of modern, high-speed vehicles, who has pledged $ 316,000 – the equivalent of his registered speed – to social programs to support military families. As well as donate to kids around the world.

Construction of the Tuatara was first announced in 2011, but a ready-made version of the supercar was unveiled in 2018. No official price has been set for the supercar yet, but Shelby claimed in 2013 that it would be priced at around $ 1.3 million. To achieve such stunning speed, the Tuatara is powered by two 5.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engines that produce nearly 1,750 horsepower on E85 ethanol, compared to 91% for lead-free petrol. 1,350 horsepower. Unlike competing supercars, all the power of this car is sent to the rear wheels, thus putting a lot of pressure on the rear wheel tires.

What is it made of?

The Tuatara also has one of the fastest-changing transmission systems in road vehicles, with a CIMA robotic seven-speed gearbox for shifting gears in less than 100 milliseconds. Also the chassis of this car is made of carbon fibers (which make it very fast) and other light materials have also been used in the construction of its body, which has caused its weight to be only 1,247 kg.

How much does it cost?

The SSC Tuatara is obviously not cheap and not everyone can afford to buy it. It costs about $1.9 million, which makes it in Top 100 super expensive cars in the world. If by any chance you are considering buying this car, you might need to think twice about the price drop in future. As you may already know most European countries, including Germany, United Kingdom, Finland and Norway all have plans to completely stop the production of Fuel cars by 2030 or earlier. So this means that the cost of fuel cars will decrease dramatically. In other words invest your money on electric cars.
